[edit] Creating a Character

Upon entering the game, you'll be presented with the title screen. On it, are three buttons: New Character, Load Character, and Delete Character. All three are fairly self explanatory. Click "New Character" to get started.

Image:create.png

Keep in mind, as you work on your character, any changes you make will appear on your character on the title screen.

  1. These buttons allow you to select your gender. A single click will be enough to change it.
  2. Clicking on this will allow you to change your characters name. Names can have spaces in them, so feel free to create a first name and last name. NPCs will be able to recognize this, and will often call you by your last name.
  3. Clicking on the arrows on either side of these buttons will allow you to choose from a variety of races and subrace. Each race has it's own distinctive look, and it's own set of subraces. For humans, subraces tend to be nationalities. For the other races, there are a wide variety of looks. Beneath these is your kit selection. Kits are simply starting sets of gear intended to help guide you towards a certain "class" if you so choose. Keep in mind that these kits do not indicate a class, but are merely starting points.
  4. This is where you'll set your attributes. Attributes are not listed numerically, but rather described. They tell you how you rank compared to the average person.
  5. This is where you choose your hairstyle and color. Any changes made here will show on your character on the title screen.
  6. Clicking these will allow you to change your eye and hair colors. Clicking on the colored button will bring up a variety of colors in the field below the button.
  7. Once you are satisfied with your character, click finished and wait for the game to save your character. If you're too hasty, you may lose the character.

Once the game is finished saving, click the character you'd like to play as and then hit "Load Character." Welcome to the Lost Realm.

[edit] The Interface

[edit] Controls

[edit] Say, OOC, Emote, and Whisper

Say is used when speaking in-character, while OOC is used for any out-of-character communication (including emoticons and phrases such as LOL). Emote is used to perform actions in-character. Whisper is used if you want to limit the range of your say. All four can be accessed from Say. Players can use OOC from say by beginning their say with a ; or : . They can emote from say with * . They can whisper from say with , .

[edit] Movement

You can move by using either your arrow keys or by clicking the arrows on the directional pad. If you are intoxicated, yellow arrows will usually overlay the directional arrows. The yellow arrows may move fairly rapidly, depending on how inebriated you are.

[edit] Trapdoors

If you go up a ladder in a castle, you should be able to go back down by double-clicking the trapdoor.

[edit] Combat

Combat in the Lost Realm is semi-managed real-time; this means that while the game is real-time, your character will do most of the work for you. Your character will automatically dodge, block, and parry, as well as perform basic attacks on adjacent foes. However, there is much you can do to improve your character's performance. It is covered in more depth in the Combat Guide.

[edit] Interacting with NPCs

All interactions with NPCs take place using the default Say verb, which by default is located at the bottom of the screen. No clicking or other verb usage is required. The simplest way to communicate with an NPC is to talk with them as you would another player. The game assumes you are speaking to whomever you have "in-focus," which is indicated by small, yellow arrows. To change focus, you may either click or greet another character (e.g., "Hello innkeeper." would shift your focus to an innkeeper). It also important to keep in mind that NPCs process commands based on key words and phrases, and that there are often numerous triggers for a given command; you are encouraged to deviate from the examples presented here.

[edit] Wenches

The key to interaction with a wench (barmaid, waiter, waitress) is the words you use in your sentences.

Say I wanted to order something along the lines of a mugged alcoholic beverage, I would ask a waiter, "Ma'am, I would like a mug of ale.", she would then come over to where I was sitting (yes, to get a drink you would need to sit down at a table) and give me a mug of ale. Any sentence with the word ale would set her to bring me a mug of ale.

Now, if I want something a bit bigger in size than a mug, I would ask for either a bottle (20) or pitcher (40). For example, you could say, "Waiter, I would like a bottle of wine." as aforementioned, she would bring me a bottle of wine. Any sentences with the word Bottle in front of a beverage ("Bottle of ale") would give the NPC the command to bring you a bottle of that beverage. The same goes for pitcher.

Say you order something, "Wench, bring me a mug of milk.", and they walk over and say "No more <insert beverage or food here> for you 'til you've payed up." That means you have ordered well over the tab that they are keeping. Saying the words "I would like to pay my tab." brings up a small trade window indicating exactly how much you owe. Simply click and hold your torins and drag them into the box, indicate how much you would like to trade, and check the accept button.

Image:Tab1.png‎

This next one is pretty self explanatory. If you wish to order a round of drinks (drinks for everyone at your table) just include the word "round" in your sentence. For example, "I would like a round of rum please." would tell the NPC to give everyone at your table some rum in a mug or indicated container.

That about wraps things up here, I will leave you with some fun commands to ask the wenches when you feel fit.

"Who are you?" "How are you?" "What is my tab?" "I would like a menu."

[edit] Innkeepers

In order to get a room at an inn, you will need to speak to an innkeeper. You can speak to the innkeeper by calling out his name (provided that no one else is selected) or by selecting him. For a room, you may simply say, "I would like a room." However, many inns offer a variety of rooms, such as suites or dining rooms; to receive a list of available rooms, you might ask, "What rooms do you have available?"

Image:Rooms2.png

Sometimes the innkeeper will tell you that you are in debt. If this is the case, simply tell him that you wish to pay your tab. Pay what you owe and then you should be able to get a room.

You can rent as many rooms as are currently available. The innkeeper gives you a key to each room you rent and tells you how to find your room. The keys are nontransferable. You will have access to the room until you either check out of the room or log out of the game. To check out and return the key(s), simply tell the innkeeper that you "would like to check out."

[edit] Shops

[edit] Shopkeepers

[edit] Purchase

To make a purchase, you must first walk up to a shelf. From the shelf, you can select the merchandise that you wish to purchase and drag it up into your inventory. This places the merchandise in your "cart." To actually make the purchase, tell the shopkeeper that you would like to "buy", "purchase", or "pay." The shopkeeper will tell you how much you owe, and the trade menu will appear on the screen. To pay for the items in your cart, drag the torins over, enter the amount, and check accept.

Image:Purchase1.png

[edit] Sell

To sell to a merchant, simply drag the item over to him and he will offer you a price. You should know that items are specific to the shopkeepers, i.e. the store owner of the General Store will not quote you a price if you offer him clothes. The trade menu will open, and if you wish you can add additional items to "your offer." When done, check accept. Also, another way to start trading, this works at long range, is any sentance with one or more of the words "Buy", "Trade", and "Sell".

[edit] Hair Stylist

If you decide that you no longer like your current hair style, you can go to the hair stylist. For a small fee the hair stylist will change your hair for you.

You have to go into the hair shop and sit down in the styling chair. To tell the stylist what style you want, say "I would like [color and/or hairstyle]." The hair stylist will response with "I would like [value] torins," and fix your hair.

The styles available for men are: short messy, messy, long messy, short spiky, spiky, long spiky, short tradesman, tradesman, long tradesmen, and bald.

The styles available for women are: short left bang, left bang, long left bang, short right bang, right bang, long right bang, short straight, straight, long straight, short ponytail, ponytail, long ponytail, short Relforsian weave, Relforsian weave, and long Relforsian weave.

If you do not have enough torins, the stylist will let you know that you cannot afford that hair style. If you chose a color that does not match your race, the stylist will let you know.

Warning: If you ask for the exact same style that you currently have or for a ambiguous mix between two styles (i.e. a short bang, with no indication of left or right) the stylist will take all of your torins and will not change your hair style.

[edit] Skills

At the moment, these skills are the only ones that are actually fully implemented within the game. For a full listing, click here.

[edit] Aquatic Prowess

Aquatic prowess represents your capabilities in the water and uses equal parts strength, dexterity, and constitution to govern swimming, diving, and lung capacity.

[edit] Alcohol Mithridatism

Mithridatism is the practice of consuming a poison in increasingly large doses in order to build up an immunity to it. Most such resistances are based firmly in constitution with a little luck and strength.

[edit] Authorship

Authorship not only describes your writing proficiency, but also your renown as a writer; famed writers are given greater leeway and carry more weight in the literary world. Creativity is a writer's greatest tool, but intelligence and personality can both significantly influence writing technique.

[edit] Fishing

A little bit on fishing. To fish, you need to buy a fishing rod from a general store or other vendor. Equip the rod and it should go to your primary and secondary hand (IE. left and right hands will be in use.) Simply drag the fishing rod over water to cast. A yellow line will appear in the bottom right corner in the middle of the arrows, those arrows too will change, up being reel, left and right being pull, and down being quit. You will see the message "You feel a tug on the line!", the bar in the bottom corner will begin to move left or right, that simulated the tension on the line when reeling in, if it gets all the way to one side you lose the fish. To prevent such a thing from happening, keep pressing left and right repeatedly to keep it in the middle. Another thing, when you reel, it jolts the bar to one side so watch out and be ready to press the opposing button. That wraps things up here.

[edit] Physical Prowess

Physical prowess represents your raw physical abilities and governs activities such as running and climbing, which are largely based in strength and dexterity.

[edit] Dyes

Dyes allow you to alter the color of cloth and leather items; this is done by dragging a vial over the item you would like to dye. They can also be mixed by dragging one dye over another.

Mixing dye doesn't strictly follow real-world rules because the game would have to accommodate a vast number of shades. Instead, mixing dyes follows a bitflag system in which each color created can only contain one of each of the following base colors: black, white, gray, red, yellow, blue, green, orange, and purple. Mixing two of the primary colors (red, yellow, or blue) will result in a secondary color (green, orange, or purple), causing that secondary color (which is still one of the base colors) to be used in place of the two primaries used to create it.

This means that orange+yellow=gold is the same as red+yellow+yellow=gold, because (red+yellow=orange)+yellow=gold, but not the same as yellow+yellow+red because combining two yellows first will only get you another yellow, and the red will make it orange.

Just remember that each base color is only counted once in the final product, and that primary colors can mix to form secondary colors. So it is possible to have both a yellow and an orange count in the above example because they are both base colors, even though the orange may have been mixed up from a yellow to begin with.

The gray scale colors (black, white, and gray) alter the product's shade, producing dark, light, and muted variants, respectively.
